Chlorides occur in all natural water in widely varying concentrations. It is important to monitor Chloride contents in industrial water as high Chloride content can cause corrosion in boiler & Cooling Plants etc. In domestic waters, Chloride contents of more than 250 ppm. gives bad taste to drinking water.Indian standard IS 10500 specifies following limits for drinking water.

• Desirable limit ( max. ) : 250 ppm
• Permissible limit ( max. ) : 1000 ppm
