Development of modern high-efficiency steam turbines has led to deposition and erosion problems in systems. Although several factors influence the formation of deposits on turbine components, Silica is a major source of deposition problem in turbines. To minimise this problem, the quantity of Silica in steam must be controlled. Silica deposits are not a problem in most turbines where Silica content is below 0.02 ppm (20 ppb). Sometimes, more stringent turbine operating specifications require Silica below 0.01 ppm. (10 ppb)
